Objective: To obtain repeat business from hotel guests and to encourage them to recommend the hotel to friends.

Strategy: In order to enhance the image of the hotel which was competing with larger, chain-owned establishments, management decided to provide guests with some unusual amenities they could use during their stay and take home with them. The specialty advertising counselor provided 31 useful items ranging from such conventional articles as toilet seat bands and laundry bags to yo-yo's, sewing kits, slipper socks and crystal trays. The hotel trademark, fresh flowers, was precisely reproduced in four-color on the specialties, even including a simple paper napkin.

Results: The general manager reported "hundreds and hundreds of compliments" from guests and attributed "at least 10-14% in our overall reservation confirmations" to the program.
