Artie Webb is a nice guy. Every time that I have seen him playing with any given salsa band in the Los Angeles area, he is the happiesr man around, always smiling. And that's a good thing, because this fellow from Philadelphia is one of the most gifted flutits in afrocuban music these days.

Although most of us recognize Art from his work in New York with Ray Barretto Orchestra, he has played and /or recorded with one impressive group of top guns in music - both Latin and general. Some of them are Larry Harlow, Horace Arnold, Jorge Dalto, Stanley Clarke, Charles Fambrough, Phyllis Hyman, Woody Shaw, Norman Connors, Ray Barretto, Candido, Cecil Mc Bee, Hubert Laws, Joe Quijano, Roberto Torres, Tito Puente, Charanga Sensual, Orquestra Guare, SAR All-Stars and Pharoah Sanders

In California, Webb has played with almost any band of importance in the afrocuban circuit, including Bongo-Logic, Bobby Matos and Heritage Ensemble, L.A. Sala Society, Spellbound, Shades of Jade and others. These days, Artie is the flutist for Johnny Polanco and El Conunto Amistad, with whom he has been associated for many years.

Artie speaks, "I did six volumes of Shades of Jade with Bill Laster". Bill Laster Laster produced a solo album for me - Shades of Jade: Art Webb - The Prophet (1995). That was volume 5.
